TWO-GOAL Xabi Alonso hailed his Spain team-mates after setting up a semi-final with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
The Real Madrid star said: “The team was phenomenal. To celebrate 100 caps with two goals makes me happy.
“We knew that from now on the matches are all life or death and that’s how we prepared against France.
“We have controlled the game and we will try to play the same or even better against Portugal.”
One of Spain’s back-room staff joked after the game that ‘we will need to down Cristiano with a lasso to stop him.’
Alonso added: “We know Cristiano perfectly and we are not surprised by his level.”
Spain boss Vicente del Bosque paid tribute to Alonso. He said: “Xabi and Busquets are not just defensive. They also know how to attack and are fantastic players.”
But for Les Bleus another tournament ended in controversy as Samir Nasri launched an F-word tirade against a French journalist.
Nasri said: “Always looking to write sh*t. F*** you, go f*** your mother son of a b***h.”
